Getting Started with Custom Tier Periods

Overview

If you use a Metric (or Metrics) to determine a Member's Tier assignment, the Tier Period setting controls the time period over which Metric values are evaluated for a Member's Tier progression. The Member must earn Metrics within this time period, for those Metrics to count toward their Tier advancement (see Configure Tier Scheme Settings for more details).

When selecting the duration of the Tier Period, the platform supports several standard options, such as Rolling 12 Months or Calendar Month for example. In addition to these standard options, the platform supports a Custom option that lets you define one or more customized Tier Periods.

For example, let's say your Loyalty program is based around quarters, instead of months or years. You could define a series of custom Tier Periods for each quarter, such as 2025 Q1, 2025 Q2, 2025 Q3 and so on. The platform will then use those date ranges as the Tier Periods when determining a Member's Tier progression.

Custom Tier Periods can also be used as the Effectivity Periods for a Tier Table. See Define Tier Table Effectivity Period for more details.

Enabling Custom Tier Periods

To view or manage custom Tier Periods for a Tier Scheme, the Default Period setting must be set to Custom. To make this configuration:

  1. Select Rules from the top navigation bar, then select Tier Schemes from the side navigation menu. The Tier Schemes screen is displayed.

  2. Search for and select the desired Tier Scheme (see Search for a Tier Scheme for more information on the available search options). The Tier Scheme Details screen is displayed, with the Definition tab selected by default.

  3. Select the Settings tab.

  4. Within the Default Period section of the Settings tab, click the Edit icon in the Action column. The Edit Tier Scheme pop-up window is displayed.

  5. From the Time Period drop-down menu, select Custom. Any custom Tier Periods previously defined for this Tier Scheme are displayed. The platform shows each custom Tier Period's name, and its start and end date / time (if defined). See Search for a Custom Tier Period for details on the available search options.
